BATUKI MUSIC SOCIETY presents DANIEL NEBIAT'S CD release "Hakimey" on Friday September 26th at the Tranzac Club.

The great Toronto musician from Eritrea, Daniel Nebiat, releases his long awaited debut CD "Hakimey", at the Tranzac Club on Friday September 26th. Krar virtuoso Daniel Nebiat will perform at 9 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The krar is a traditional string instrument from East Africa, prevalent in Ethiopia and Eritrea (Horn of Africa). It can be played using 5 or 6 strings. Nebiat started playing the instrument at age 8, his mother discouraged him from becoming a musician and wanted her son to go to school and be successful in life. She broke his first krar. However Nebiat insisted on playing the instrument and reached a compromise, continued going to school and having time to play his instrument.
Nebiat has been performing at several Eritrean and Ethiopian clubs in Toronto. He is also in high demand performing at cultural events and weddings in his community across Canada and the U.S. Nebiat was a featured performer in Glen Gould Studio for the Horn of Africa concert which was recorded for CBC Radio's On Stage Series and broadcast nationally on Radio One and Two.
He has also performed at numerous festivals in Canada such as Afrofest, Bana y'Afrique, Eritrean Cultural Day, Afrikadey, etc. Nebiat got a huge reception from the audience when he opened for Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 at Harbourfront Centre's main stage. Since then he has taken his music to a diverse audience across the city performing for the Wavelength Series at Sneaky Dee's and at the Gladstone Hotel.
